Think strengthening your pelvic floor is just about incontinence and prolapses? Did you know that a weak pelvic floor can have a seriously negative impact on your ability to have and enjoy sex? In both men and women.

But locating the pelvic floor muscle is something many of us find difficult, if not impossible. If you have no idea what tightening your pelvic floor feels like, how are you supposed to strengthen it?

The fact that the only way to find out how weak or strong your pelvic floor is, is through an internal examination and exercises can put many people – men and women – off seeing someone about their issues.

Angela Jones, a physiotherapist from Sydney Pelvic Clinic who specialises (funnily enough!) in pelvic health, realised this and found a way to get around this problem: not only learn how to locate your pelvic floor muscle but to also exercise it without putting in any effort.

“The body is an integrated system and if something’s not quite right, particularly in a critical area, like the pelvis, there’ll be consequences that sort of show up elsewhere in the body, such as the knees, neck or feet.”
